Silicone nail molds are useful for efficiently creating dimensional details to elevate any nail design. Available in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and patterns, silicone nail molds are flexible, reusable molds designed to create detailed 3D gel embellishments with minimal effort. Instead of sculpting every detail by hand, simply fill the mold with gel to create intricate dimensional pieces such as flowers, bows, and other decorative accents. Once cured, the finished piece can be removed from the mold and adhered directly to the nail, allowing you to achieve consistent, professional-looking 3D designs without advanced sculpting skills.
Gels for Silicone Nail Molds
For best results, fill silicone nail molds with a non-wipe color gel. If you don’t have the exact color you need, you can create your own by mixing color gel polish with a clear non-wipe top gel until the mixture is evenly blended.

Using a non-wipe gel is important because it cures with a non-tacky surface. This helps the finished piece release more cleanly from the mold while minimizing tearing or breakage, especially on designs with thin, delicate, or fine details. Since the gel already has color, the finished charm doesn’t need to be painted over after it is cured unless you want to add extra details.
Non-wipe color gels such as Pochit Tude Taem Gel and Jello Jello Zig Zag Gel come in a squeezable tube and make them convenient to use with silicone nail molds. With these gels, you don’t have to make your own gel mixture and also helps reduce gel waste through only using what you need by squeezing out a small amount of gel. These gels come in a variety of colors.
How To Use Silicone Nail Molds
- Gently bend the silicone mold back to widen the crevices of the cavity. This makes it easier for the gel to reach every detail of the design.
-
Fill the space with your choice of non-wipe color gel. You can either squeeze the gel directly into the mold from its tube or use a fine liner brush to carefully paint the gel into the crevices.
If using your own custom mixture, use the liner brush to work the gel into the crevices of the mold. Work slowly to avoid creating air bubbles.
Once the cavity is completely filled, use the side of a spatula or scraper to remove any excess gel from the surface. Hold the scraper flat against the mold and gently pull it across in one smooth motion to leave the gel leveled with the top of the mold.

-
Cure the entire mold under a UV/LED nail lamp for 60 to 120 seconds, following the curing recommendations for the gel you are using.
- Gently bend the flexible silicone nail mold away from the cured design to release the cured piece from the mold. Use a pair of fine tip tweezers to release the design from the silicone mold. If thin unwanted bits of excess gel remain around the design, carefully remove them by peeling or trimming them away.

-
Adhere the finished 3D piece to the nail. Small embellishments can typically be secured with a medium-viscosity top gel, while larger or heavier pieces should be attached using a parts gel or other thick gel for added strength. Cure for 60 seconds.
-
To finish, apply top gel around the base of the embellishment to help further secure it to the nail. Avoid coating the surface of the 3D design unless you intentionally want a smoother appearance, as applying top gel can soften fine details and reduce the definition of the 3D piece. If applying top gel, we recommend using a thin, low-viscosity non-wipe top gel. To preserve details, you can also use a sponge to gently dab non-wipe top gel onto the design instead of brushing it on. Cure for 60 seconds.

With silicone nail molds, you can 3D gel pieces in advance and store them in a clean, airtight container for later use. Pre-making 3D embellishments is a great way to save time during nail appointments or when creating nail sets.

Silicone nail molds make it easy to create crisp, detailed, and consistent 3D embellishments with far less time than hand sculpting. Whether you’re a nail professional looking to speed up your services or someone creating nail art at home, silicone nail molds are an efficient way to achieve polished, dimensional nail designs with reliable results.
