Have you ever wanted to recreate the captivating beauty of the Aurora Borealis on your nails? If so, uruuru nails are a must try! Also referred to as ice nails or aurora nails, uruuru nails are a glossy iridescent nail look that was hugely popularized by Korean nail trends. However, the distinct and mesmerizing look of uruuru nails actually originates from Japan and was created by Japanese nail artist YUCA. In Japanese, “uruuru” (うるうる) is used to describe the state in which one’s eyes become watery with tears, giving off a glossy glisten. The glossy glisten of watery eyes is used to describe this nail look that gives off a similar feel. Naturally, as uruuru nails gained popularity, nail artists have adapted this look to create their own versions, giving way to derivatives such as ice nails and aurora nails with a similar urururu nails feel. Follow our tutorial to create this glossy iridescent look.
To achieve the distinct, glossy, and iridescent look of uruuru nails, there are four key products that you will need:
Syrup or jelly gel polish - The translucence of a syrup or the transparency of a jelly gel polish enhance the reflective features of uruuru nails.
Iridescent nail film - The iridescent film reflects light to create a mesmerizing show of colors.
High viscosity non-wipe clear gel - The high viscosity non-wipe clear gel is needed to adhere the film to the nail and encapsulate it to optimize the glossy feature of ururuu nails.
Satin or iridescent nail powder - Satin powder enhances the reflective and iridescent qualities of the uruuru nail look.
How To:
Shape and prep the nails.
Size and prepare the iridescent film piece for each nail. Carefully use a sharp pair of scissors to cut film into small pieces to fit each nail. Each film piece should be in the general shape of the nail, covering the center of the nail surface, leaving about 2-3 millimeters of the nail perimeter uncovered. Set film pieces aside.
Apply a base coat. Cure for 30-60 seconds according to instructions.
Apply one coat of syrup/jelly gel color of choice. Cure for 60 seconds.
Apply a second coat of polish for even color. Cure for 60 seconds.
Use an oval brush to apply a small bead of KKOR Easy-embo gel to the center of the nail surface.
Use a pair of tweezers to apply the iridescent nail film onto the bead of embo gel. Gently press down on the film to spread out the embo gel and flatten the iridescent film piece. The film piece should lay flat with the embo gel completely spread out underneath the film. Work slowly to avoid creating air bubbles. Once the film piece is centered and the embo gel has completely spread underneath the film, cure for 60 seconds.
Use a liner brush to apply embo gel around the iridescent film edge and create a smooth and seamless blend to the nail. Cure for 60 seconds.
Use an oval brush to encapsulate the iridescent film with embo gel. Create a slip layer by applying a thin layer of embo gel over the nail. Then take a small bead of embo gel on the brush and overlay the nail. Work slowly to avoid creating air bubbles. Allow the gel to settle, creating a smooth surface. If needed, flip the nail upside down to allow the gel to flow to the center and create an apex. Cure for 60 seconds.
The surface of the nail should be smooth. If there are any rough edges or dips, use a buffer to smooth out the surface. Clean the surface with an alcohol wipe.
Apply one layer of top gel. Cure for 30 seconds.
Use a sponge applicator to apply nail powder to the surface of the nail. Brush off excess powder.
Apply top gel. Cure for 60 seconds.
The result is a captivating glossy iridescent nail look.
Try experimenting with different sheer gel colors as the base color, different satin powder finishes, or adding texture to make your own unique uruuru nail look.
