Pigment Powder Nail Art

However, in nuance nail design, pigment powders can be used with various application methods to create nuance details, patterns, and color effects. The creative range of pigment powders can be used to make your nail art truly unique.

Pigment powders are highly concentrated in color with an ultra-fine texture. A small amount goes a long way, delivering rich color payoff. Their fine particle size makes pigment powders ideal for blending and layering, making them especially suited for creating nuance designs. Apply them as a loose powder over cured gel color finished with a matte top coat for seamless color transitions, or use them in a liquid mixture and apply them like watercolor to create soft spreading effects.

If you’ve ever tried and like using nail inks, pigment powders can be used for a similar effects, but allows more precision and control. Using a petal brush coated with a bit of brush cleanser solution or dipped in cleansing alcohol, gently pick up a small amount of pigment powder, wipe off excess amount on a clean mixing palette, and apply the pigment powder like a nail ink on the tacky surface of cured gel on the nail. The mixture applies like a watercolor. However, because the pigment is not premixed like it is with nail inks, you can control how concentrated or diluted the pigment mixture is. For a washed out effect, dab the brush in brush cleanser solution or cleansing alcohol to dilute the powder pigment and color. For deeper color, wet the brush and add more pigment powder. Mix pigment powder with clear gel or a clear texture gel to create your own custom mixture for personalized color and unique texture.

Water-color Effect

Apply pigment powder using a brush coated with brush cleanser solution or cleansing alcohol. Apply liquid pigment mixture directly onto the inhibition layer of your choice of gel color after a full cure.

Ombre Effect 

After applying and curing your choice of gel color, apply a matte top coat. Cure according to matte top gel instructions. Use a sponge applicator or ombre brush with a small amount of pigment powder and lightly dust it over the matte surface. 

Stone Effect

Apply pigment powder onto the nail in a designated area and encapsulate with 3D clear clay/sculpting gel or mix pigment powder directly into a small amount of 3D clear clay/sculpting gel, shaping the clear gel into a stone, apply to the nail, and cure.
